GW

Ultrasonic Guided Waves ( also known as Long Range Guided Waves) are structure-borne elastic waves which propagate along the structure confined and guided by its geometric boundaries. During their propagation, GW interact with geometric discontinuities and produce reflected waves that are detected by the same system that generated the incident GW.

  • Inspected structures can be pipelines, boiler tubing, tank support legs, piping crossing, insulated piping, encased piping, piping not configured for pigging, buried pipe lines etc.
  • Geometrical discontinuities can be corrosion or erosion defects (internal or external), circumferential or axial cracking and other metal-loss defects.
